Sacred Heart Sewing Group
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us.

History...

The Sacred Heart Sewing group was formed on September 8, 1986 when four ladies of the parish, Isabel Budreau, Genevieve Lasher, Agnes Turley and Lolly Budreau met and began making articles of clothing and other items for those less fortunate.

Many other people have joined us to offer their time and talents over the past twenty-five years. Currently we have four regular members and a few other occasional visitors. There is even one man who occasionally brings items he has made.

Some of the organizations our articles have gone to are:

Birthrite - Rensselaer, IN
St. Elizabeth Hospital - Lafayette, IN
St. Agnes School - Chicago Heights, IL
Matrix Lifeline - Lafayette, IN
Sisters of St. Francis - various mission areas
The Mount - Sisters of St. Francis - Mishawaka, IN

In the twenty-five years that the Sacred Heart Sewing Group has been in existance there have been in the range of 20,000 articles made and distributed.

Currently...

When:
We meet the 2nd Monday of each month.

Who: Everyone is welcome to join us. You don't have to know how to sew, there are many other things you can do to help.

What: We are currently making baby quilts and other articles to add to the Sacred Heart Christmas Giving Tree collection sponsored by the St. Theresa of Avila Study Club. Giving Tree donations are typically given to St. Agnes School in Chicago Heights, IL.

How: Almost all of our materials are donated. Including sewing machines, fabric, thread, etc.  St. Ann Society has purchased quilt batting for us in the past.

We do sell baby quilts for a reasonable price to help raise money to make necessary purchases.

If you are interested in looking at our current selection of baby quilts please contact the rectory office for contact information.
